For GRIPS Students

I am happy to advise students interested in empirical research using econometric methods, particularly causal inference techniques. If you would like me to be your advisor, please first take a look at some of my work to get a sense of the kind of research I conduct, and then send me a short research proposal (no longer than one page). Your proposal should include the following:

  • Research Question – What is the central question you want to answer?
  • Motivation – Why is this question important, both academically and practically?
  • Method and Data (if possible) – What empirical strategy and data are you considering? I understand that when writing the proposal, most master’s students are still learning basic econometrics. So it is fine even if your ideas on empirical strategy are not yet developed—just outline them as best as you can.

I would like to have a meeting to discuss your proposal before deciding whether to accept you as an advisee.
Note that I may not be able to take on additional students once my capacity has been reached.
